Air Ionizer Buying Tips, Part 2
6. Shapes and Sizes
An air ioniser can be placed at more locations, if it is more compact. Higher elevations, such as a bookshelf can also have an air ioniser placed there if it is compact. An air ioniser can be more effective if it is placed at a high elevation. Its effectiveness increases with the level of elevation. This is more important in the case of fan-less devices.
7. Car Plug Adapter
Some air ionisers are provided with a cigarette lighter adapter for use in the vehicle, as an added benefit.
8. Output of Ozone
Ionisers produce small quantities of ozone in the form of a by-product. A separate ozone-generation device, such as a corona discharge system, is a part of some air ionisers. This might lead to the creation of excessive levels of ozone. Even as the added ozone output makes the air purifier much more effective against odours, this can be potentially harmful.
Some devices have a separate ozone-generating device, which can be disabled if ozone is not required without any loss in terms of the ionisation and filtration functions. However, it can be turned on if a strong odour is required to be removed.
9. Warranties or Guarantees
Many air ionisers that are poorly made or those that are not backed by strong brands are provided with only a one-year warranty or even less than that. The better air ionisers have a 3-year warranty or that of an even longer duration.
10. Price
Some high-priced units are poorly made, while some well-made air ionisers are quite inexpensive. Therefore, the quality of the air ioniser might not be accurately indicated by the price. On account of this, it is important that the potential buyer should know the factors that are should be considered; in order to make sure that one gets the best possible device for the money.
However, several tests and studies that have been conducted recently show that some ionising models can expose users to significant amounts of ozone.
